Questions people actually ask

FAQ

Short answers to the things people ask before their first Drop.

What is Larking?

Live video meetups in your browser. Larking runs scheduled events called Drops, and when one is live you check in, browse the people who are online right then, and say yes or pass.

A mutual yes puts the two of you in a 1:1 video call within seconds. Phone or computer, nothing to install.

Is it a dating app?

No — Larking is social first. Friendship, casual chat, networking, creative collaboration. A little romance happens, but it is not the point and nobody is sorted by it.

You say what you are looking for on your profile, and you will see what the other person said before you say yes.

Nothing about Larking is built around attraction — it is built around showing up at the same time and talking.

What's a Drop?

A scheduled window when Larking is live. Drops are announced on the home page, with a reminder email if you want one.

Outside a Drop there is nobody to browse; that is on purpose. Everyone shows up at once, so the room is full instead of a trickle.

How does yes / pass work?

During a Drop you see one card at a time. Yes or pass.

If you both say yes, a call starts right away. If one of you passes, nothing happens — and nobody is told.

Will someone know if I pass on them?

Never. Declines are anonymous, always — passing on a card, or stepping away from a match.

Nothing on Larking shows a one-sided no.

How long is a call?

As long as you both want. Either of you can end it.

Afterwards you leave quick feedback, and if you both say you would talk again you become connections and can message.

Are calls recorded?

No. Video streams live between the two of you and is never recorded or stored.

The whole of what we keep, and what we do not, is on the Privacy Policy.

What's the live selfie?

An optional photo you add when you check in, shown on your card only during that Drop — proof it is you, tonight.

It never joins your profile.

What do I need?

A browser with a camera and a mic — phone or laptop — an account, and, for now, an invite.

No app to download.

How do I get an invite?

Larking is an invite-only pilot. A member can send you a link or show you a QR code.

If you do not know anyone here yet, write to us at hello@golarking.com.

Is it free?

Yes. Larking is free during the pilot.

Who is it for?

Adults, 18 and over.

Anyone who wants to actually talk to people instead of trading messages that go nowhere.

Can I host a Drop for my community?

Yes — a show, a Discord server, a meetup, a club. During the pilot we host a private Drop for your group for free: it is never listed publicly, and only people with your invite links or on your invite list can get in.

Hosts set their night up, make a link for each place they share it, and see how it went afterwards — counts and survey totals, never who.

Ask from the Host a drop page and a real person will get back to you.

What about safety?

18 and over, with a date of birth before your first check-in. You can report from inside any call, you are asked how it went after every call, and a small team reads every report.

The rules everyone here agreed to are on the Terms of Use page.

Why "Larking"?
